The James Downing Theatre on Chicago’s Northwest Side will present its musical production, The Fantasticks, Saturday, March 6th through Sunday, March 28th, 2010, at the John Waldron Arts Center housed at Edison Park United Methodist Church, 6740 North Oliphant Avenue, Chicago, IL 60631. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and at 1:30 p.m. on Sundays. Doors open 30 minutes before show time.
The musical, with book and lyrics by Tom Jones and music by Harvey Schmidt, broke all records with a run of more than 41 years off-Broadway, between 1960 and 2002, and was revived almost immediately for Broadway. A timeless tale of young love, feuding families and the challenges of growing gardens and growing up, the show features a memorable score, from “Soon It’s Gonna Rain” to “Try to Remember.”
The production, directed and choreographed by Micah Fortenberry, includes cast members: Greg Foster and Shannon Regan as the young lovers, Matt and Luisa, Matthew Petersen and Kate Comegys as their parents, Jason Jackson as El Gallo, Mark Brewer as the Mute, Ben Muller as Mortimer and Sean Thomas as Henry. Fortenberry and pianist Kevin Reeks share duties as co-musical directors. Lighting design is by Steve Kedzierski and costume design is by Margret Ebert. Joshua Dlouhy is the producer.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for senior citizens and students. Group rate of $13 per ticket is available for Reserved Groups of 10 or more. Seating is limited, so reservations are strongly suggested.
